New Year is the most important celebration in China. Unlike in Western cultures it is a longer period with various festivals taking place in cities and countryside alike.
Regardless of the modernization of life the people faith is further alive in traditional forms. The processions of Jinfeng in the province Fujian, nearby the million-metropolis Fuzhou, are one of the most multicolored and most spectacular celebrations.
On 10th and 26th of the first lunar month - in February and March - people honour the spirits and heavenly divinities in order to gain protection, luck and prosperity for the coming year. In every square of the village, tables present gorgeous offerings, dressed up spirits parade through and all inhabitants - from the military to the children - are involved. |
