JSLC was built in 1958 and equipped with state-of-the-art satellite launch facilities. It is mainly used to conduct scientific and recoverable satellite missions with medium, low earth orbit and high inclinations.
JSLC has successfully conducted over 20 scientific satellite launch missions since putting the first Chinese satellite into orbit in 1970.
On March 25, 2002, Shenzhou 3 was successfully launched from Jiuquan Satelite Launch Center.
JSLC is situated in the Jiuquan region, Gansu Province, northwest China. The altitude above sea level is around 1000m. The climate is continental and arid, with a relative humidity of 35-55%. All of these provide good environmental conditions for satellite launch.
JSLC includes two launch complexes, North Launch Complex and South Launch Complex, with all the needed logistic support facilities for China to pursue its space programm: Chinese scientists have promised a Chinese astronaut in orbit by 2005 and a manned landing on the moon by 2010. |
